Mike Smith: Varsity Running Backs
Coach Smith is in his 8th year of coaching High School Football and 2nd year of coaching at Central High School. This year he is coaching the running backs. Previous coaching experience - he was an assistant running back and linebacker coach for St. Thomas More that made it to the playoffs every year while on staff.
He comes from a family of coaches. His father coached in the State of Nebraska for 40 years, while his brother is in his 28th year of coaching high school football.
Coach Smith played 8-man football for his father in high school and then walked on to the University of Nebraska to play fullback, where he was a member of the 1994 National Championship team. Later he transferred to Chadron State College where he switched to tight ends and was on the 1996 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion. He is married, 25 years, with two children.
