Coach Colpitts was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he competed in football, basketball, and track. His efforts on the football field earned him a scholarship to play safety at the University of South Dakota. In his time at USD, he starred on special teams and as a rotational safety. In 2017 he was part of one of the best seasons of Coyote football in the D1 era. After his playing career, he got a job teaching and coaching in Yankton, SD. In his five years there, Yankton made it to the semifinals four times, and Coach Colpitts helped numerous players to All-State honors as well as collegiate football scholarships. Coach Colpitts is going into his second season as head coach of the Rapid City Central football team.

Coach Colpitts has been married to Kourtney for 5 years, they have two daughters together, Calli (4 years old) and Gianna (2 years old).
